MY UPSC STORY

I have taken five attempts, wrote four mains and took two cse interviews.

First Attempt- 2015, Cleared Prelims, Failed in mains,

I was serious about the exam but had no direction since I was preparing from mumbai on my own and couldn't find experience people to guide me.

Second Attempt 2016- Learnt from my first failure and appeared for the interview after clearing first two stages

Was supremely confident of clearing the exam,

Made all the arrangement for celebration on 30th may 2017 at my native place, had an intuition that result will be out on that day, Interviews were over by 26th may and UPSC generally declares result in the next few days, but result came the following day on 31st May 2017,

I was devastated as I couldn't find my name in the list

Was shocked to the core,

The next prelims was on 18th June 2017 only a forthnight away, I had not picked a book or a newspaper since 6th April when my interview of second attempt was done,

I came back to Mumbai from my native place on 1st June,

Almost Stopped sleeping for the first week as I had to complete a lot of syllabus, after the first week got a little bit of confidence, took a breather and cleared Prelims that year, This was my third attempt,

But again failed in Mains, I went with the same plan as that of second attempt but did not do enough writing practice this time as I thought in my previous attempt I couldn't clear only because of my interview marks which were mere 127.

Prepared again

2018 Fourth attempt- Failed in prelims, That year prelims was a goggly and I was cleaned bowled.

Parents asked me to unwind and take a break,

Went to Symbiosis Pune for the MBA in International Business,

2019 Fifth attempt- Found it very difficult to find time to study due to MBA but somehow managed,

Luckily cleared Prelims and Mains as well and appeared for interview on 18th March 2020.

Was very happy,

Result came on 4th August 2020 and again I didn't find my name in the list.

This is my UPSC failure story in a nutshell.

I started preparing for CSE from 9th December 2013 when I was roughly 20 years old. My father is in Police and he was the guiding factor and main motivator. Today I am almost 27, I must say that although UPSC took a lot of my time and efforts it also gave a lot in return.

This year I completed my MBA and have a job through campus placement. Somewhere I know that knowledge acquired through UPSC has helped me get this job.

I have also been offered to teach fellow aspirants in one of the coaching academy here in Mumbai.

Although today's result has disappointed me a little bit but over the years I have learnt to accept these failures.

My advice to fellow aspirants would be that when you take a plunge in the UPSC preparations always have a plan B ready, do not get swayed by the speeches of toppers and other motivators. UPSC IS A VERY UNPREDICATBLE EXAM and even toppers didn't know that they would top before the results.

If fellow aspirants are below 25 they should definitely look at armed forces which offer good quality of life and job role. I have missed out on this.

Any doubts regarding exam, feel free to ask.

Finally, I will prepare for my last and sixth attempt but for now I would take some break and have a cup of coffee before I take that final punch.

Cheers.
